Furniture restoration/renovation
Restoring old wooden furniture is very interesting since you
can see the form and the style of the time they represent.
All the materials used are natural, colorless,
environmentally friendly and non-toxic, and are applied by
hand which is very important in order to retain the beauty
and warmth of wooden furniture.
Sometimes, certain damages caused through time should be
enhanced.
This makes the object more fascinating and more valuable.
Gilding and Silvering wooden, metal and stone objects
Gilding or silvering certain objects can enhance part or all
the surface of the object.
Wooden furniture, stone and metal object, picture frames,
mirror frames, beds, railing and various decorative items
can be plated with gold or silver.
Sometimes only the most interesting parts (carved etc)
should be gilding or silvering enhancing the beauty of the
objects.
Fine layers of 23 3/4 K gold and 975° silver leaves are used
and are glued to the surfaces with Tsikoudia (Cretan Raki).
This is a traditional technique and is called Stilvoma
(varnishing). The parts that have been gilding or silvering
are then covered with varnish by hand which gives a clear
bright surface and shing appearance.
Stilvoma is a technique which produces very good results.
Outdoor/Indoor photography of old buildings and
buildings under renovation/restoration
Photographing an old building indoors and outdoors while all
restoration works are in process is very important, since we
can picture its architecture, the previous materials used,
the damage caused through time and the construction
techniques that were used in the past. We can also see what
new materials and reconstruction methods are being used.
Very important pictures for both the engineer and the owner
of the building to keep.
The pictures are taken with a 35mm film camera (Reflex 35mm)
and the most interesting ones are selected and stored on cd
and then handed to the engineer and the owner of the
building.
The pictures are taken from different angles and at
different time of day (mornings and afternoons), depending
on the location of the building.
All the beauty of the construction is depicted making the
engineer proud and the owner happy. |
